Königstein Fortress, one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe, rises about 240 metres above the Elbe. It was developed into a massive fortress by the Saxon royal house in the 15th century. Late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and 19th century buildings can be found on the site.
